Notes:

Ruiz is in a tough situation as he await his call to the majors. The Jays have Lyle Overbay and Kevin Millar platooning at first base. Usually the one not starting at first is the designated hitter for the game. Coats may see a promotion soon. With struggles seen in the outfield, Coats may end up in the Jays mix. Arencibia, who is the Jays’ version of Baltimore’s Matt Wieters, may also make the call up north. However, with the success that Toronto back-up catcher Raul Chavez has had as of late, may have to wait until September or next season to crack the majors.

On Saturday, June 20, The Jays recalled on again-off again Blue Jay Russ Adams. Jays fans might remember Adams, who broke in the majors in 2004 as a shortstop, but was soon defeated by Aaron Hill. Adams has spent stints in Toronto around the infield and now has minor league experience in the outfield. The Jays sent back Joe Inglett to Las Vegas to make room for Adams, who was hitting .319 in 24 games for the 51s.

On the mound, Brad Mills was recently called up to make his Major League debut against Philadelphia. The Jays won the game 8-7, but Mills was not a factor in deciding the game. The rookie showed some nerves and surrendered a couple of home runs while issuing a few extra walks. However, he showed his potential with the sharp breaking ball he owns. Look for a better start against the Reds.

Jeremy Accardo and Brett Cecil also have received recent calls to return to Major League. Accardo, who was Toronto’s closer in 2007 was still recovering from an injury last season before recieving the call. In four games pitched this season, Accardo looks to be back into 2007 form. Cecil pitched well in a no-decision Saturday against the Nationals. The Jays eventually lost the game 5-3 in 12 innings.
